Many of you might have received an invitation to become a member of ISDS. The invite to come join for only $40 is very enticing, especially when budgets are tight, and you get into Midwinter for free. “You get what you pay for,” applies here. When it comes to matters of legislation, ISDS can always pull up the number of hygienists that are ISDS members and use that to their advantage. Yes, being a member of IDHA will cost you a bit more, but in the long run IDHA is here to represent YOU, the dental hygienist, not the dental assistant or the dentist. If expanded functions dental assistants are allowed to take over many of our duties, what do you think that would do to our financial future? Where does that leave the profession of dental hygiene? Remember the state of Kansas allows for Expanded Functions dental assistants to provide supra-gingival scaling. Read the ADA’s position on the Oral Preventative Assistant, http://www.ada.org/3207.aspx. Then you can think about what that $40 can get you. I have been around to know that things can change very quickly. We need to look beyond our immediate needs and plan for the future .Become involved, ask questions, and if you can, please join IDHA/ADHA. To join/renew to ADHA go to www.adha.org.
NSDHS has had 3 very successful CE seminars this first half of our season. We thank you for joining us and if you haven’t had the chance; we have 3 more during the second half you won’t want to miss. Our next seminar is scheduled for Wednesday, January 18, 2012. The speaker for that evening will be Doreen Smeltzer, RDH, MA.ED; the topic is “Whitening and Esthetic Maintenance.” Please join us for an evening of education and camaraderie.
My best wishes to all of you and your families for a Joyful Holiday Season and a Safe and Prosperous New Year.
