NSDHS President's Message - February 2012

Where does the time go? I find myself asking that question on a regular basis these days, analyzing my time management skills and efficiency. Sound familiar? Spring will soon be upon us, and North Suburban Dental Hygienists Society Board Members are busy planning for the March and May Seminars, as well as Lobby Day. We have amazing opportunities, challenges and changes ahead of us, and are very fortunate to have dedicated members committed to elevating our profession of dental hygiene at the local, state, and national level. Let’s use our time, talents, and energy efficiently.

It will be important in the upcoming year to support your Association. Collaborative Practice is a real possibility and we need all of you on board. This legislation hopes to increase access to oral health care in Illinois for those who need it most as well as provide additional career opportunities for dental hygienists. Please plan on attending IDHA Lobby Day with me and fellow hygienists on March 8, 2012 in Springfield, IL. Please go on the IDHA website for a registration form and more information, www.idha.net.

If you are a long-time member, we thank you!!! Our Association would not have come this far without you. Please continue to attend meetings and actively support NSDHS and IDHA. If you are a new member or transitioning student, please stay involved. Consider volunteering for one of the many committees that your Board could use help with. If you are not a member, please consider joining today. I encourage all of you to attend our Wednesday night CE Seminars. Please invite non-member hygienists you work with or are friends with to the next NSDHS event you attend. We are constantly in need of and welcome new faces.Finally, I would like to thank Alison Stahl, Event Coordinator for The Northern Illinois Oral Cancer Walk, and member Trish DeDios for their wonderful presentation at the January Seminar on the Inaugural Oral Cancer Walk taking place this June.
